Becoming an artist has been a long journey. I've always wanted to be an artist but my practical self took priority. I always dabbled in art while working at something that put money in my pocket and food on the table. I always knew that when I retired I would pursue my dream. So during my 40 year career, I collected books, took some classes, collected fabric, collected beads, yarns, machines of various sorts and all kinds of tools to make art. When that day finally came in 2008, I looked around and wondered where to start. Since my first love is textiles and fashion, I was drawn into the world of cloth art dolls. Here I was able to create miniature fashions and I learned a new art...making the doll. I made my first cloth art doll in 2009 and went to a cloth doll convention where I met so many talented doll artists. I was hooked; I've been making art dolls ever since.
Although I continue to make cloth art dolls I'm drawn to so many other art forms that I find myself wanting to try my hand at other media. I have recently worked with polymer clay and paper clay. I love that I'm able to get more detail in my work using this medium. I am also creating wearable art in the form of jackets, textile jewelry and accessories.
Oh, I've discovered another art form...Textile wall art. This is relatively new for me but I do enjoy "painting with fabric" to make wall art. So the journey continues.....
